Why honored: Senior left-hander Austin King, in his third year on the varsity, was Canyon’s pitching ace, recording an 8-1 record with a 1.53 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 55 innings. He led the young Eagles to the District 3-4A title. King also played the outfield and hit .319 with 22 RBIs.

Like everybody else who plays baseball, Randall senior catcher Shane Wilson goes through daily rituals in preparing for games and practices, participating in infield drills and taking his swings in the batting cage.

And while he thinks about the things he may have done right or wrong in previous games, Wilson also has to worry about things his teammates don’t. Things he worries about even on days when he doesn’t play baseball and will continue to concern himself with for the rest of his life.

PHILADELPHIA — Kevin Garnett scored 27 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and used a dominant second quarter to help the Boston Celtics beat the Philadelphia 76ers 107-91 on Wednesday night and take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Whistled for a costly illegal pick late in a Game 2 loss, Garnett crushed the Sixers early and never let them think about a fourth-quarter rally.

Garnett scored 13 of Boston’s 32 points in the second quarter and the Celtics became the first team to win by double digits. Game 1 and Game 2 were each decided by one point.

Nick Herrmann started his career at Tascosa in fall 2008. At the same time, I returned to coaching after an eight-year hiatus having pursued a different profession. Having been out of wrestling for that time, I was not sure my eye for talent was sharp.
