Veterans commission gives $450K for veterans’ assistance

The Texas Veterans Commission has given $450,000 in grants to two Amarillo nonprofits to help veterans and their families get back on their feet.

The Salvation Army of Amarillo has received $300,000 to provide emergency assistance for rent and utilities, and Family Support Services has received a $150,000 grant for mental health services.

Both grants will go toward assisting veterans, whether they received an honorable discharge or not, as well as their families, including spouses of deceased veterans.
