Hillcrest Memorial Day celebration cut short

The Hillcrest Cemetery Association and several area residents gathered Monday to pay tribute to those who gave their lives to protect the U.S. during a Memorial Day ceremony. However, severe weather and tornado warnings cut the event short.Hail began to pelt Hillcrest Cemetery’s Floca Pavilion as Keifer Marshall Jr., an area World War II veteran, addressed a crowd of about 50 people. It was Marshall’s second speech of the day; he addressed the Salado Cemetery Association’s annual Memorial Day ceremony earlier that morning.
