A lawsuit filed this week claims the Beaumont school district has a "pattern and practice" of violating the Texas Public Information Act, but the school district's attorney feels the case is more of a "gotcha" than a valid complaint. After submitting more than 40 information requests to the Beaumont school district in the past five months and having them, in his opinion, partially answered or completely ignored, Beaumont attorney David Vann De Cordova has asked a judge to force the district to give him what he wants. De Cordova filed the petition Monday claiming that seven separate times - once in 2010 and on six occasions in 2012 - he has filed public information requests through the school district's communications office.

Donald "Duck" Dunn, the bassist who helped create the gritty Memphis soul sound at Stax Records in the 1960s as part of the legendary group Booker T. and the MGs and contributed to such classics as "In the Midnight Hour," "Hold On I'm Coming" and "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay," died Sunday at 70. Dunn, whose legacy as one of the most respected session musicians in the business also included work with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's Blues Brothers as well as with Levon Helm, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, died while on tour in Tokyo. Dunn was born in Memphis, Tenn., in 1941, and according to the biography on his official website, was nicknamed for the cartoon character by his father. Cropper left to become a session player at Stax, the Memphis record company that would become known for its soul recordings and artists such as Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Isaac Hayes and the Staples Singers. How could anybody not want to work with John and Dan? I was really kind of hesitant to do that show, but my wife talked me into it," Dunn said in a 2007 interview with Vintage Guitar magazine, "and other than Booker's band, that's the most fun band I've ever been in.

Players have until June 8 to file and join the many cases that are expected to be consolidated in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia. Since so many players have filed, the court will likely listen collectively to the evidence against the NFL and then choose which individual player cases to try, while the others will fill out information sheets on their clients in what is called a bellwether letter process, Atlanta-based attorney Mike McGlamry, who is handling the Dronett suit and several others, explained to The Enterprise.
